Hill College Modernizes Welding Fleet to Meet Demands of Local Industry

Located in the heart of Central Texas, Hill College finds itself in a hotbed of fabrication. In addition to job shops and general manufacturing, the area has a demand for trained welders to feed companies specializing in screw conveyor fabrication, rail car service, steel poles for power transmission and distribution, and pipe welding.

As with many schools around the country, there is a delicate balance between outfitting welding labs with top-of-the-line equipment and balancing budgets—a fact further highlighted by the fact that the school planned to open a third welding lab at its Meridian campus. Through a series of state and federal grants, Hill College was able to outfit each of its labs with new Miller welding equipment, highlighted by nearly two dozen XMT® 304 CC/CV MIGRunner™ packages that include: an XMT 304 multiprocess power source, a 22A wire feeder, a Bernard® Q-Gun™, an Industrial MIG Kit, drive rolls for both .035 and .045 wire, and a factory-installed running gear/cylinder rack.

We’ve got the whole story on MillerWelds, right here.

Miller to sponsor No. 19 Chevrolet Impala with Mike Bliss in Nationwide Series Top Gear 300 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Miller will partner with TriStar Motorsports to serve as a primary sponsor of the No. 19 Chevrolet Impala with driver Mike Bliss in the Top Gear 300 race this Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The partnership will mark Miller’s first NASCAR primary sponsorship endeavor.

“It’s an exciting time for us to be able to partner with TriStar Motorsports and Mike Bliss”, said Andy Weyenberg, Manager of Motorsports Marketing at Miller. “We believe in Mike’s ability and have worked with him at Xpress Motorsports when he won a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship and again at the Haas CNC Sprint Cup program. Miller products are used daily at many of these race shops, so when Rick Carpenter brought this opportunity to us, we thought it would be a great way to highlight our products to everyone from the casual hobbyist to the professional racer.”

TriStar Motorsports Driver Mike Bliss reiterates Weyenberg’s excitement about the partnership especially at the track where he recorded his last Nationwide Series victory in 2009.

“It’s an honor to once again work with Andy and Miller for this weekend’s race at Charlotte. Not only is their equipment first class, but they put a large emphasis on people and commitment which is just one of the many reasons they have a large global presence. I know we will represent them well and put on a great show for them and the fans.”

Tune into the Top Gear 300 race on ABC this Saturday, May 28 at 1:30 p.m. (Central). Pre-show coverage countdown starts at 1 p.m.

Miller Adds Smoked and Shade 3.0 Lenses to Arc Armor® Line of Safety Glasses

Smoked Lens with Black Frame

Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has rounded off its safety glasses offering with the addition of Smoked and Shade 3.0  to its existing offering of Clear and Shade 5.0 line of safety glasses.

The new safety lenses are available in black, blue and orange frame colors. The Smoked lenses are ideal for outdoor applications, the Shade 3.0 is ideal for light oxy-fuel or plasma cutting applications.

Arc Armor safety glasses are designed for optimal comfort, fit and durability. Featuring rubber ear pads and form-fitting orbital eye coverage, the safety glasses reduce facial discomfort and pain that can occur after long periods of use.

The Arc Armor safety glasses provide outstanding protection features, including shatter-proof polycarbonate lenses with an anti-scratch coating and soft foam protection guards that keep out dust and perspiration. The Smoked, Shade 3.0 and Shade 5.0 safety lenses, also feature a reflective outer coating providing ultraviolet protection and enhanced contrast with minimal glare.

Welding safety is Miller’s priority, and we understand welders don’t just want safety products that are durable and protect them from potential hazards,” said Bill Gardner, product manager at Miller Electric Mfg. Co. “Welders want style and comfort — products they can and want to wear all day without discomfort. These new safety glasses, like all of our Arc Armor products, meet those criteria.”

Shade 3.0 Lens with Orange Frame

The new safety glasses also meet the Z87.1 requirements of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for personal eye and face protection devices.
