Where Is Your Business Focused?

In times of economic uncertainty and limited resources (which is pretty much always), deciding where to focus your company’s resources and efforts in order to improve your welding performance and profitability can be an agonizing decision.

Some companies, believing they already have enough employees to meet their orders, focus on maximizing the efficiency of those employees by purchasing equipment that reduces set-up and training time or by implementing programs that improve operator skills and weld consistency.

Another company, also facing production deadline pressures, might focus on raising productivity by increasing deposition rates and travel speeds or by reducing downtime and reject rates.

Some companies approach it from a different angle and focus on trying to reduce their welding costs. They might look into the energy consumption of their equipment, their consumables costs and ways to lower their labor costs.

Fortunately, focusing on and achieving improvements in any specific area is likely to pay dividends in others as well.

Given the current economic environment and your company’s specific circumstances, which of these four key business issues is the most important to your business right now? What steps have you taken or do you plan to take that will achieve your business goals? Share your insights by posting a comment below.
